Aloe extracts, which are more concentrated forms of the plant’s active compounds, are frequently used in anti-aging creams and serums for their antioxidant benefits that help protect against environmental stressors. 

Meanwhile, aloe bitter gum (also known as aloe latex) is less commonly used in topical products due to its strong bioactive components, but in carefully controlled amounts, it may appear in specialized formulations.

Aloe vera gel is widely incorporated into health drinks, flavored beverages, yogurts, and dietary supplements, valued for its refreshing texture and potential digestive support benefits. 

Its naturally occurring vitamins, minerals, and bioactive compounds make it appealing to health-conscious consumers. Aloe extracts are sometimes added to nutraceutical products and functional foods for their antioxidant properties. 

However, aloe bitter gum contains aloin, a compound known for its strong laxative effects, and is therefore strictly regulated or removed from food-grade products. To ensure safety and compliance, manufacturers typically purify and decolorize aloe materials before incorporating them into consumable goods.

Pharmaceuticals

Aloe vera gel is commonly used in topical treatments for minor burns, wounds, eczema, and skin irritations due to its soothing and anti-inflammatory characteristics. 

Aloe extracts are included in certain herbal medicines and oral supplements aimed at supporting digestive health and immune function. Historically, aloe bitter gum was used as a stimulant laxative because of its anthraquinone content, particularly aloin, though modern regulations have limited its internal use due to safety considerations. Today, pharmaceutical manufacturers focus on standardized, purified aloe preparations to ensure both efficacy and consumer safety while harnessing the plant’s natural therapeutic potential.
